Subject: this heat on the beans is serious-- even in Kansas

nc ks
In Kansas we get weather like this every year when our beans are in their reproductive stage. However, the conditions leading up to the 'bad' conditions would usually have had the corn belt pansies crying. However, this year we had a month of weather that tricked these hillbilly beans into thinking they were upper crust Moline beans. They doubled in size and got fat and sassy and showing off. They kind of spent their trust fund slush account before they invested in anything tangible. Now they have no means to support themselves and are trying to do their actual job with no supplies. This is not going to end well. I would rather have bean plants half the size we have trying set pods cause they would actually end up with some decent size beans in them. There will still be some decent beans in spots where they got rains last week, but in general, this isn't going to end well this year. I usually discount the corn belt 'chicken littles' and what they spew, but with the heat they are having now, I kind of believe their beans are in trouble. The corn on the other hand, they seem to get greasy every year and raise good corn. Wouldn't put too much stock in the wimpers about the corn going south. Just my opinion.
