I guess I'm not positive what "detent" means. I don't have the manuals handy either.
When disking, I usually push the lever forward to lower the disk. (I don't push it completely forward to the "lock" extend, or the float) I will then adjust it up or down maybe a couple of times through the pass but the lever is in the neutral position most of the pass.
