My banker said most of the grain farmers in this area lost equity that year. That is one of the qualifiers. Losing equity by itself it doesn't mean much without seeing the details (no, I don't want to know yours). By itself it could just mean that a person is trying to live a lifestyle that they can't afford. A couple pretty good indicators of whether crop farmers as a whole are doing good or not is which way the price of land is moving and the amount of new equipment being sold. Both of those would indicate that 2005 wasn't as great as lately but it certainly wasn't 1985 either. |
