Southwest Illinois | Numerous studies on this. I think the brush auger is least desireable because the bristles wear fast and if you plan to treat they will gum up fast. I think plastic is good, but expensive. I think most studies show 1/2 point germ savings over steel. A good cupped auger will do minimal damage for cheapest cost. The plastic will do less damage, but will you really see a 1/2 point improvement? And if you do will you really adjust your seeding rate by 1/2 point to realize the savings? After all if a bag is tagged 85 it could really be 86 germ or 96 germ. So to me plastic isn't worth the expense unless you go to using for dry fert. | |
