Wi
Everybody knows the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none". This applies to snap ring pliers. Interchangeable tips, or convertible between internal/external just gauruntees you one thing, its going to be junk and will piss you off.

You said you were sick of junk. Then you need the ultimates, Knipex has been mentioned above in a couple posts so it seems a few are on the right track. I have plenty of Snap-On tools, but trust me, you want to skip them when it comes to pliers. Their pliers in general are not bad, but Knipex is "The Pliers Company". That is all they make, 1000s of pliers. All German engineered and built in Germany as well. Very high quality and reasonably priced.

I like the Precision snap ring pliers series which differs from the links provided above. The reason your other snap ring pliers loose the snap rings, bend, or flex and just aggravate you overall is due to most being stamped out of metal, the Knipex are forged. There are many other features that make them very nice. You can read about them in the links below.

This is a link to the Knipex site. Browse around and read the PDF on this series and you will understand what makes them so great.

Here is a link to an excellent starter kit and a great value. I buy all of my Knipex through Chads.

Here is the complete set of Knipex Precision snap ring pliers, along with the rest of my Knipex pliers. This is my favorite drawer to open. I did add it up and it will cost you about $800 to get every internal/external, straight/90* in size 0,1,2,3,4. While you are on the Knipex site, read into their part number system. It makes wayy toooo much sense. Okay I'll stop for now, I just love all of my German tools.
