Saronville NE | Well I normally just background, but with what I paid for heifers last winter and the market went down last spring, we could feed em and make money but not just sell em as backgrounders, so got 175 head of heifers that go in sept. Then another 84 head of steers that go in Jan. Gonna buy more bigger cattle to go to commercial yard if they will pencil a profit to get more out of my corn, since I screwed up and have very little sold for harvest, add another 50 cents to my corn. But got lots of feed would like to buy some lighter cattle also to background at home, if not may just buy bigger cattle and feed them out at home, have never done that before, have always just backgrounded. In this area I feel you will have better luck in commercial yard selling fat cattle, just cause their is very few farmer feeders in this area. | |
