Watonwan County MN | 68 years ago today, the B29 SuperFortress "Enola Gay" dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Effectively ending the second war to end all wars.
I had 3 great-uncles serve in WW2, two of which served in South Pacific theater. Luckily, they all came back to lead productive lives as farmers here in Saint James Mn. They never talked about their exploits, although "Ralph", who farmed with my grandpa, had a machete knife that he found from a deceased Axis soldier. He showed it to me once when I was about 5, there were tears in his eyes, and he never said a word. I didn't understand why for the longest time. He died with those horrific images he saw not too long after he showed me that "spoils of war"
I really have no idea why I posted this in Stock Talk, other than the fact that I seem to fit in here better than anywhere else. Just wanted to honor all those that gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can raise our cattle, hogs, sheep, chickens, goats, horses, and all livestock the way that WE want to. Not the way the government TELLS us to. I know there are times when it seems like we are being restricted too much, and I agree somewhat, but we still have the freedom to graze our cows on standing corn in WI, or the hills of Wyobraska, or in a bedded pack barn near Denison IA. Guess Ill shut up now and go do chores... | |
