NE Iowa | Everything you are currently doing looks good to me. I've seen positive response to adding fungicide and insecticide when I spray roundup. I use 6 oz of Headline or Quadris depending on whichever is cheaper (~$12/acre). For insecticide I add 3 oz. of generic Warrior (Kendo, Silencer, Lambda-Cy) and that costs less then $2 per acre. If I were you I would take some tissue samples this week. Tissue samples are the best way to find micro nutrient deficiency. I send mine to A&L labs in Atlantic Iowa. I just did some myself this week. They are $26 each but that is much cheaper then blanket applying a bunch of micros if they aren't needed. I'm also a big fan of pre herbicides in beans. I spray with the planter and use 3 pt of Thundermaster (Pusuit & Roundup). 1.25 pt of generic Dual (MetooLachlor), and 2 oz. of Cloak DF (gen. Canopy). Total costs of that is about $16 per acre but some fields need no post spraying and other I didn't post spray until early July. I used to plant about 165K in 30" rows. This was my first year drilling beans and I tried to drop around 185K. Everything is no-till and I shoot for 70 bu/acre. I soil test quite often and fertilizer rates are adjusted for every field based on those. I also use inoculants that have growth promoter in them also. The 2 that I've used in the past are Optimize and Graphex-SA. | |
