Which, again, is the prescription many many many organically minded folks keep telling me is what I should be doing.

Being a free country, I guess they are free to tell you what you *should* be doing BUT, organic growers are permitted to use granular fertilizers (so long as there is no synthetics in it). I think you like to listen to these organists just so you can poke fun at them.

The other option I am always told, to be sustainable and organic, is to not plant crops, but plant clovers.

This is something I have done for decades. Tho, we need to understand that growing N through a legume means I am not able to grow a harvestable crop, so I produce less.

Yep and after all is said and done...... Chemical is about more crop and less money. Organic is about less crop more money.
