Im 72 , I remember my fathers organic farming days . 1948 2-4-D freed us of late plantings , increased yields by timely planting. Allowed early harvest to beat the snow banks . Dad always said the greatest advances to farming were chemicals and hydraulics .
Any one who had to hoist an old "Gram home " out of the ground full of weeds with a pair of levers knows what I mean . :>)
