People say things like "organic farming has proved sustainable for thousands of years" according to "Chimel." Before the modern ag production, transporation, and storage of the past 100 or so years, famines were MUCH more common, even in wealthier countries. ... that doesn't mean modern, technologically advanced farming practices are evil or cause health problems in people.

Not sure how all of this is related to organic vs. conventional, except maybe the health problems. Famines, production, transportation and storage have more to do with efficient government planning than the method of production. Most organic farmers I know use technological equipment and can't wait for the robotic advances in weeding, which will be the most important invention in farming for decades. Even conventional farming can use it. In fact, this technology will most likely come from conventional farming, and will be welcome for herbicide resistant weeds and produce farmers.
