These discussions are frustrating because everyone lets emotion, rather than fact and logic, drive the discussion. Honestly, I understand SOME consumers frustrations with the modern ag-corporate complex and the government's friendly relationship with Monsanto. However, organic farming & its major proponents are guilty of distorting facts and honestly, so much of this is just marketing. Corporations and farmers all need to make profit, and the people marekting organics best way to increase demand is by demonizing "conventional" ag practicies. People say things like "organic farming has proved sustainable for thousands of years" according to "Chimel." Before the modern ag production, transporation, and storage of the past 100 or so years, famines were MUCH more common, even in wealthier countries. The word sustainable is thrown around so much but nobody knows what it means! Again, I do not like the monopoly affect monsanto & the other ag conglomerates have, that doesn't mean modern, technologically advanced farming practices are evil or cause health problems in people. Sigh.
