100% Admitedly, I got in a FB feud with a 'hippy'. My friend works for the corn association and had shared a link to the march on monsanto-DesMoines page, where she had posted about only marching that next day if you were informed. The main person that I 'talked' with did not have a job, he instead spent his timing gardening their lawn to feed his daughter. His theory was that the industrial revolution was the root of all evil. With the industrial revolution, industry brought poor tenant farmers to the city for factory jobs. This put pressure on the farmers to learn how to produce food for those that no longer produced it for themselves. In this individual's mind, the world would be better without industrial agriculture, and that all these problems could be solved if everyone grew their own food. This may be so, but that would mean no time for the arts, sciences, or good old fashion development of culture. Apparently, New York City can be fed with rooftop greenhouses. The sheer magnitude of how much food needs to be produced is lost on a lot of people. Additionally, I don't see many new yorkers etc. jumping on the band wagon to quit their jobs, give up their luxuries, and spend hours toiling just to feed themselves. Your comment about being evil, the individual I was talking to lost any and all credibility when he started talking about how evil others and myself were for working for Monsanto (I dont work directly for monsanto, but apparently I do their evil bidding). It was also said by another organic lover that letting those in under developed countries starve is better than sending them GMO produced food. Apparently that person had never starved. Seems like a tough way to go out to me.
