Here is a picture of a sign on an organic farm stating "no toxic chemicals allowed" with one of the pictures being a skull and cross bones.

I think this is part of what stirs up this hysteria about non-organic stuff. It is like saying "no sneaky Germans allowed", it tries to make the whole group look bad. It gives the image that the "rest of us" are spraying extremly harmful chemicals on crops. Not in every case but in many the organic producer trys to run down the product the rest of us produce by making it sound like ours is not safe or inferior. I find that to be the most obnoxous thing about the organic crowd, I really wouldn't have a problem with it if they weren't making the rest of us out to be the bad guy.
