| You are right that straw decay can be a problem with the amount of fall moisture and warm temperature "normally" present in the southern plains. Double cropping and then harvesting again in the fall helps take advantage of the residue but still make it manageable by spring. Variety selection becomes very important at that point, Some varieties have superior straw quality in this regard, Duster is by far the worst!!!!! |
