SE SD | I just built a flat plate out of one inch thick eight inch wide flat iron that wraps around the side of the frame and bolts on with 3/4 inch bolts, three per side just behind the fifth wheel. The adapter for the fifth wheel plate has a couple issues, depending on the semi and the trailer. First is the height and second is the clearance from the back of the semi to the front of the trailer. On my rig the mud flaps would hit the front of the trailer even with the fifth wheel slid all the way back. My goose neck ball ended up five inches taller than a 3/4 ton pickup and I wish I would have built it lower as the trailer sits kinda nose up. I can get on the nut for the ball with big impact so removing for pulling a grain trailer is not to big of a deal. If I would've mounted the ball lower, my trailer would run level and I wouldn't have to take it off to pull fifth wheel trailer. | |
