A few reason i believe why it dries faster. Cutting at that late stage the crop is drier to start with. There is more lignin and less sugar in it. The sugar is like sap, harder to get the moisture out of it. Another reason is the grass/alfalfa mix. I was told by the hay guru around here that a mix will dry faster than pure alfalfa or pure grass. Also this week was warm and low humidity so it will dry much faster than a humid day. We chop everything luckily so dont have to worry about a nice long drying window.
