I was disappointed out at the conference to listen to a 40,000 acres grower that was cover croping come to find his secrete was to pick up the phone and call the coop to spread junk wheat . and that it was his first year doing it. SOO no secret.
No secret here just determination to get it done. Drilled followed the combine around bean fields. The more you spread out the seed the more spread ou tthe spring will be is what I found out, and IF you apply manure to your cover crop the thinnner the better cause manure can turn 2 bhl into 3-4 bhl in a hurry .
We do plant 800 acres corn and 800 acres of beans so we will be moving forward in expanding acres of cover crops even into the beans.
I think the big farmer thing is just an excuse for those that don't want to do it .Who says a 3000 acre farmer needs to do all 1500 acres of corn ground rotate it around , do it on your ground that is long term. | |
