Yep, renting probably just isn't a good idea. It's not a matter of if rock equipment will break, but when. I wouldn't even want to rent one because then I'd be stuck fixing it when it broke.
A very experienced rock farmer here once said that if a guy is willing to let someone else use his rock equipment, chances are it's already broken.
