WC MN | PP is not the cash cow that many seem to believe it is, especially if you are paying market or above market cash rents. You still have to pay rent and all your overhead if you don't plant a crop. If I PPed my whole farm I would be underwater. Lots of beans went into tthe ground in my area in last 4-5 days because soybean PP is not reall attractive and most guys wouldn't have any corn base left because they are planting more corn than they have in the past.
Perhaps in some areas it is more lucrative or if you had continuous corn it would be better but not hear. I agree that everyone should try to get a crop in and PP should be an absolute last option but it happens and I'm glad it is there. We have used it on a small scale in the past. | |
