Adding protection on the outside is a lot easier. Walling in a small corner of a concrete floored basement, porch or garage with bricks or cinder blocks isn't hard and will do more than anything to keep heat off your safe. You want it to not get hot, but not trap heat in for long periods of time as well. Many safes can take 1500*F for a few minutes, it is 750*F for hours that kills the contents inside.
