Subject: RE: Smithfield Foods gets a bid from Chinese... Reciprocity

Driftless SW Wisconsin
I think one consideration in this type deal is reciprocity - would China allow an American company to purchase one of its largest AG companies ?

The answer is probably no. They will let you joint venture or buy part of a company and bring in knowledge and equipment and markets but not the whole company.

On the other hand, we just had Memorial Day reminding us of those who fought and died for our freedoms. Does that mean they died for the right for Carl Icahn or whoever to sell their spec stock to the highest bidder including the Chinese?

Just some thoughts from a tractor while dragging the winter pasture manure piles.
