Cullom, Illinois | The only fear I would have is that when these large companies buy out ag related businesses, you lose any common sense from the powers that be. Look at what has happened to the seed companies. The CEO's see only the bottom line and share holders rights and privilages come first. Huge companies don't get to be huge companies by paying the middle man extra. They eliminate him and do it themselves. So I see more consolidation because of this...if it's allowed to go through. Not that Smithfield did the smaller pork producer any favors along the way. But the farther you move away from the producer having any control over his hogs, the harder it becomes for him to get the margin he needs to survive. | |
