Fort Morgan, CO | I used to run night shift on the manure injector when we still ran it. I would wake up at 6 for school, get home at 4, do homework till 6 then go out and take over for the guy ahead of me and run till midnight or so. I was about 15-16 at the time.
Harvest was 16-20 hour days for a few weeks at a time which I was alright with since I like working at night. Worst part is when the field is far away from where you're sleeping as you spend extra time on the road that you could be sleeping.
Getting a blizzard usually takes long hours for trucks and employees to get in. And since they come at night, I'll usually work all day, go home and have dinner and wait till 11. Then head to town to clear the road and back, pull out anybody that's stuck. Then take a nap and go back out at 4 so the day crew can get in. Then work all that day cleaning up from the storm.
That's about all the long hour times I can think of, usually starts to affect me after a couple days. | |
