I thought all tunnels and bridges had this little plastic span with rubber flaps well ahead to notify drivers if they forgot about the height of their vehicle, but I see this is not the case. I am also amazed that the first section of such bridges are designed (there is no other word) to fall down. The span on the first sections should be reinforced to prevent this, the section should hold on the pilars much better, or whatever, but a truck should not take a whole section down with it just because it is oversized. This is ridiculous. Not even mentioning why the I5 still has sections restricted to trucks... Glad no life was lost, but it's going to cost millions when they could just have digged 2 poles and a fake plastic span 50 yards ahead of the bridge for thousands. Not sure if they'll just put up a new section or take the opportunity to build a brand new bridge. Probably the former, nobody has the money to build unplanned bridges these days, and ideally it would be better to design the new bridge when the old one is still working, not adding to the traffic congestion any more time than strictly necessary. |
