| I was kind of hoping that there would be more non-ag students simply because it would be nice to get some well presented facts in front of the people that desperately need to see it.
I am looking forward to seeing your presentation on GMO's. I have read information on GMO's both good and bad. I can’t put my fingers on it right now, but will try to retrieve the links tonight. Most of the information that I consider valid comes from academia and tends to lean towards GMO's being safe. If one has a basic understanding of genetic modification then it would be easy to see that it really isn't all that different from traditional breeding...conceptually.
Almost exclusively, the bad information that I've seen usually involves unfounded scare tactics that activists have used. They use words like "frankenfood, poison, toxic, etc." This tactic plays right into the hands of companies that wish to employ misleading or gimmicky advertising, preying on the ignorance of the general public/ consumer, or implying that anything otherwise is bad. A recent example is Chipotle's decision to address the GMO issue. They switched from soy to sunflower oil. Big deal. They also claim that a "substantial" portion of their ingredients are sourced from organic sources. What does "substantial" mean?
I digress. lol.
