NW KS/ SC ID | for the pickups you plan to pull it with, I would vote gooseneck, and we are the most pro bumper pull people out there. The first gooseneck ever to hit the farm arrived about 3 years ago. I still like the bumper pull for many aspects, and prefer it behind a chassis cab DRW 1 ton with overloads, but for a 3/4 ton with no overloads, the gooseneck is hard to beat. in fact, the only trucks we have a ball in are just the 3/4 tons, and in my opinion, a heavy 3/4 ton and a single tire 14K gooseneck are a match made in heaven. same wheeltrack for less drag on muddy or snowy roads, and a fraction of the tires on the ghround compared to a tandem dually behind a DRW pickup. I just dont like how the lighter springs of the 3.4 ton behave with a big load behind, but we still do it.
if you havent got a ball, I would highly recommend a B&W turnover ball.
IDK about your local laws unfortunately, so I cant help you there. in most states we travel in we have been getting away with anything under 26K GCWR, so the 11,000 lb Gross chassis cab 1 ton and the 26 ft 14K bumper pull are still barely legal. We also have the most Joe schmoe farmer story rehearsed for each situation if we were to in fact get chased down for driving by the ports, but so far so good! | |
