Just curious about rules for drainage in your area.

Sounds like this drain outlets water from a number of different properties.
If this is so then is there no agreement about who pays for the outlet for this water?

In Ontario we would have a "Municipal Drain" which would be surveyed and designed to take all water form the watershed even for properties that did not wish to tie into it when it was built.
The survey and design lays out the % cost for each property depending on the area flowing into that watershed and then the cost of any repair in the future is proportioned to those properties.

With small areas of drainage with only 2-3 land owners it might be possible to reach an agreement and not have it done through the municipality but it is probably harder and more costly in the future if someone balks at paying their share.

So if I was you I would be looking at what all the others with water flowing through the drain will be paying for it and how it will be laid out for future repairs.
Then it should be sized by someone who understands the amount of water needed to go through it.

And last if you have water coming overground above your drain then you will need some kind of 'structure' to collect that water and direct it safely into the tile otherwise it will continue to flow over the surface and pond until it can infiltrate to the tile OR just rush all the way overland and cause washouts and erosion.

A cheap fix now could be costly in a few years. Do it right the first time.
