They don't really damage crops much. They generally stay in the water but you can see them out sunning this time of year and often will see where they have crossed fields to get to other bodies of water when the one they are in starts to dry up. Illegal to hurt them without a tag and then only in September. The biggest threat to people is usually when some idiot starts feeding one as a pet near where kids swim. They are bad to get dogs like labs that swim a lot.
