western iowa,by Denison | Gee Jim ,you might have jumped to a conclusion on my subject-I did not tear it up-I will be harvesting it with my $2200 Dion chopper makin fresh rye and wheat silage and then spreading my organically produce cattle manure about a day before I no-till my corn and soybeans into the 10 ton a acre manure covered (have scale on spreader) ground.
I just stated that finically I would have been about $100,000 ahead without the covercrop on paper-did not mean that is what ruled my decision-funny how everyone is on the bandwagon about covercrops until -you personally run into a roadblock why they might not be the best deal financially(or in my case-just really hard to destroy it)
I do not Know Jim if your implying we as being -Me-or if you are implying the crop insurance industry and government- I guess i'm really not a farmer then if I feel bad about discing a covercrop under that is so green and lush, when I know mother nature has provided a wonder!I'm sure that I don't make my decision's as litely as you have commented,as I can not pass my stupid mistake on to anyone but myself:
Guess what I was trying to remark was I screwed up by putting a covercrop in ,when I knew in m y heart I could not tear it up as I would make feed out of it-might be the difference between a farmer and a cattlefeeder-I'm sure Paul Harvey's "God Made A Cattlefeeder" piece would have been much longer!
