Subject: cover crop ?mistake-darn it?cant bring myself to kill it!

western iowa,by Denison
Well I knew the outcome when I drilled last fall, had chopped some silage and baled some cornstalks and with all the talk about cover crops put in 160 acres-50 rye 110 winter wheat! It looks so pretty I just couldn't destoy it-so now I will be chopping 110 acres for silage and putting in corn and beans behind it-I could have insured the same ground for $900 a acre on my proven yield-now I can get 0(zero insurance) and only hail coverage-about a $99,000 mistake for coverage!

Its hard to be a farmer and destroy something so green and lush-especially when you are a cattle feeder-now I remember why I quit growing cover crops 5 years ago,I wish they would come up with a way to insure that 2nd crop of corn or beans at 50% value-probably one thing that is wrong with crop insurance-and I will probably not put cover crops in next year as I would have a hard time once again destrying a lushes green forage crop!

Well at least my ground is green right now-my bildfold will show my results and it looks like no green in there!
