      Where are you from?
      I think there is some merit to the idea of an alternate host.  I'm not sure it even needs to be green, at least not for very long.  I'm exploring that idea myself.  Last year i had a plot of sorts with some ARG planted in 30" rows and the corn planted in between.  The ARG was killed at planting but the slugs still hung out on the ARG strips more than on my corn rows.
