| Best mpg I have achieved yet with my new Hyundai has been with somewhere close to E30 in the tank. I occassionally have E24 available and fill with it when I can. 91 octane most always cheaper than E10 at same pump. Car is not flexfuel but I think the computer somehow reads the octane of the fuel and allows timing to advance a bit to take advantage of the higher octane.
IMO, if an engine was designed with adjustable timing/compression it should be able to fully utilize the high octane of E85 and compensate for lower BTU content. If so, E85 could come close to or even exceed the mpg of straight gasoline. | |
