My EZ Pilot will also steer very rough the first time when I engage after powering up the system. I keep the steering wheel tight so it will disengage and when I engage again it steers smooth.
I use my EZ Pilot on a smaller mfwd tractor and decreased the turn/angle to 12 for smoother steering.
