Faunsdale, AL | I think you still get some/most of the benefit of a cover crop when you remove the forage.
BIG reason....... You have covered the ground all winter, so much less erosion potential.
You have had a growing crop there, so the soil stays active (I believe this is important),
The roots and stubble are still there for organic matter (how much would you have had if you hadn't planted anything?)
there's probably others.............
I can think of several reasons it wouldn't be as good to remove the forage as to leave it. It's a choice each one has to weigh for themselves. | |
