SE IL and SW IN | The ryegrass that did not respond to GLY in a positive manner is a numbered experimental selection that will probably never make it to market. We will treat the entire plot with Powermax/Basis next week to clean up these escapes. We will also be doing that in some of our fields that were not sprayed under good conditions, one in particular where the rogue shower found me on the next to last pass.
The vetch example is one that continues to trouble me. There are huge differences in varieties and selections not only of Hairy Vetch but of most species that we use as cover crops. Some seed is sold as VNS (variety not stated), but a growing amount is sold under a "brand" that most times means nothing, so the end user still has little knowledge of what he is receiving from one year to the next. A few independent seedsmen only market what they grow or contract under their brand, but most marketers will never run out product to sell under their brand.
