I use thunderbird and just by marking mail in the inbox as junk, it learns to junk spam so that I don't have to see it. I do have to check the junk folder occasionally to find what it has treated as spam that was legitimate. I don't allow my ISP to filter because their filters are too dumb and filter out work products as often as spam.
