I call BS.  According to this website, just a straight piece of tubing the length that you are talking about weighs almost 8.  It sounds like you built at least a little bit of a truss system, with the way you described it tapering to the end.  It may work, but there's a lot more stress there than what 2 pounds would give you.  Maybe you meant 20 pounds?
