Subject: Lifting Crank on Swing Auger Is a Problem

South Dakota
I have a 71 foot 10" auger and the when I move the auger I have to crank the swing hopper up. This is the second auger I have had that the hand winch doesnt lock and it slipped and have had close calls. I got it good yesterday and really got my the back of my hand banged and it swelled up like a catchers mitt. I was surprised that the xray showed no broken bones but the pain is unbearable. I know of 2 other people who have had close calls with the same type of hand winch that the cog spring breaks. I do not want to go through this again. Is there a type of hand crank that I can turn both ways without worrying about a clicking brake. Is there an automatic type winch that doesnt require a mechanical stop and the worry of the crank slipping from your hand and breaking bones.
