Subject: RE: Please educate me on why I should own a John Deere planter

I like the stands on the finger pickups. I have a 1750 and I get darn near perfect stands with it. In skilled hands, the finger pickup can be adjusted to plant most any seed size with great results, but they do best with medium rounds (or whatever slang the seed companies are using now). We only have a few Case ASM's around, so I really don't have a lot of experience with them, but as I understand them, they are vastly improved (seed spacing wise) over the old psycho air's.

I was most disappointed with the stands on Deere's CCS planters. Absolute joke. I had a client that had one for just one year, and I'm sure it cost him way more than the planter was worth as a result of poor seed spacing.

That CCS was traded in on a Great Plains. I wasn't all that impressed with that planter either especially compared to a finger pickup unit. The GP spacing was much better than Deere's CCS however. The downside on the GP is that is looks like a maintenance nightmare.

I'd go with a used Finger Pickup, but then again maybe I'm getting old and set in my ways. I also like the ground engaging tools on the Deere's better than the aforementioned.
