WC MO | If you want someone to find a new use for them, that someone will need to know the structural characteristics of them, and that someone probably has no hands-on experience with them.
BEEF explained some of it in his post above, someone who knows the specs might want to answer a few questions for those with engineering experience who read this forum but know nothing about them:
They were intended to store silage, right? at what percent moisture?
Are they always 20' in diameter?
are the heights always in 20' increments?
are the sides sheet metal? what gage? why isn't the metal panels corrugated for strength? structural ribs?
why are they blue?
Ive been told they are like a giant thermos bottle, which are glass lined and airtight. Are harvestores actually lined with something like glass? Are old ones rusty on the inside?
In reading the posts on this thread, they apparently are airtight (or at least they were when new), which means they have to be augmented with vents and fans for grain storage, is this correct?
Were they constructed the way a corrugated steel grain bin is built, essentially from the top down (roof assembled first) with preformed panels bolted or riveted together?
