Idaho | is, when cutting, to have enough 02 to make the metal chemical thing work. Try it at different ratios and presures so one recgonizes what is happening and can adjust for the job. Having a chart and tip assortment can improve the job. I think the biggest error is too large a tip on too light metal. Heap big fire in small teepee ain't good.
For heating tip adjustment ya gotta have enough to get er hot. Then, not too much O2 pres so it is easy to neutralize the flame. One can neutralize at 4-1 but it is much less touchy at 1.5 or 2-1.
If it is popping and BANGING and the handle is hot find out why. Don't ignore it. Can really spoil your life.
Other assorted trivia. Open O2 valve all the way so stem back seats and doesn't leak what you paid for. Check bottle stems with kids bubble soap which is good in the tire room, A/C and air jobs also. Open acet bottle valve only enough to get flow required. If something bad happens then the fuel source is more quickly eliminated. At the end of the job or day turn off the bottles, drain the hoses, back off the pres reg valves, then close the torch valves. Guage sets last longer if regulator spring tension is relieved. Hoses purge quicker for quick restart if torch valves are closed. Also stops accidental leakage. Get a routine.
After getting several leakey stemmed and empty bottles from my supplier and being looked at like a liar when asking for credit I did this. Made a pres guage for each style of bottle. Went to the store and check my take out with the guage for fullness and bubbles stuff for junk stems right in front of them. Frown frown. Wa La bad valves every where. They were cutting corners at customers expense. Service is only as good as you make it.
As in all things do as I say, not as I do. Some days just ignore the whole thing.........like yesterday. | |
