Audrain County, Missouri | We fill a 20 x 50 with dry corn using an 81' auger. Usually fill it with the last corn we shell, and try to do it when the air temperature is fairly low. Most years have filled in late Oct or early November and then empty in January. Tend to get a slight crust on top, this year one load spiked in moisture and had a small amount of damage. Only docked for the moisture (15.6 with most of the other loads running around 14.5). We pulled the power sweep out, and modified the door so that we could vac directly out of it. We have no air on ours. Very cheap short term storage for a little less than 10,000 bu.
I have a friend who fills a 20 x 70 with a grain vac and has removed the mechanical tunnel from the bottom. He put aeration flooring over the tunnel and built a transition out of it for a fan. He stores beans in his and has never had any trouble. He keeps his for shipment later in the spring. That's on the to do list for us, but we've gotten along good so far. | |
