Ohio | A friend of my son's with no farming experience wants to farm. He and his wife do have a good off the farm jobs. The just bought a small 15-16 acre farm with a barn. He's raising some beef and pork to sell direct. He rented 10 acres for some hay. He's frustrated he can't find more ground but I told him to be patient when grain prices go back down like they always do I think there will be ground available. He's only 26.
So my advise to young people wanting to farm is save money, work at establish good credit. Consider selling direct to consumers: produce, meat, nursery. Look into some custom farming. There will always be someway from someone to make a living farming. | |
