Thanks for that story. I had never heard of that.

You know what immediately came to mind? Euros originating from Cyprus central bank as opposed to Euros originated from Germany. It is already happening. There is a two tier Euro where some Euros can not be used in other countries. If a "blue" Euro is not the same as a "red" Euro (as per your story), it is only a matter of time before one "sells" at a discount to another. That means that there are no more universal Euros, but essentially two different currencies. They might as well call it a Drachma or whatever. It will start trading as a different currency in the black market. The bad money will drive out the good (bad money circulates at increasing velocity while the good money gets hoarded)
