| One example would be high cold vigor not just germ. A seed potentially could have a ninety nine percent germ but have low vigor...if this was the case the seed would sprout and grow fine under ideal conditions but under tough(prolonged cold and wet soil conditions) the seed may flounder and reveal only a marginal stand. In the same field a high vigor seed planted in the exact same conditions may produce a near ideal stand. The vigor in corn seed can be determined by growing conditions as it is being produced, harvest equipment, seed cleaning equipment, seed moisture, the seed plant configuration etc...All corn seed is NOT created equal just because the "germination" is the same on two different bags. | |
