well its just like you said start with the specs in the book and fine tune according to crop conditions, higher moisture crop requires a bit faster rotor speed and smaller concave opening. other than that just keep your chains tight, machine lubed well, and sickleblades on header sharp. thats what i always went by and havent had any problems really.
