I don't believe in my life time or my childrens lifetime any one entity will be able to do all of agriculture in an area as large a country. Yes, it allows one person to cover more acres, but you still need someone out there interpreting what's going on. Is the depth right? Do we have the down pressure set too high? Do we need to adjust the closing wheels? Are the row cleaners moving too much dirt? The best part is that this model will allow that one person to do a better job on more acres than what he could have done before. I have the energy to ride the UTV around all day and monitor stuff but when you're switching fields regularly and adjusting things often it wears on you and sometimes you just say, "I've had it" and you close your eyes and plant. Well, this model would allow you to keep planting and still continue checking stuff and do an excellent job without wearing yourself out. In terms of cost I would say the biggest extra expense would be navigation units on each machine rather than one unit on one large machine. Three little machines without cabs should be similar in cost to one large machine with a cab I would think but it may not work out that way in the real world. |
