It depends on how you define efficient. Everyone always claims that north american manufacturing is the most efficient in the world yet the Chinese can make a product and ship it across the ocean for less money than it can be made HERE, so who's REALLY more efficient?
Define efficiency. Man hours per product? Dollars input per product? Waste? I can tell you that North America is one of the most inefficient. Sure, we can automate, keep our input costs low, etc. BUT, we need to have 35 MBA's from the top down to determine what should be done. American manufacturing is way too "top heavy".
The Chinese are getting smart now by replacing a worker that makes $5 a day with automation. When all the injection and blow molding gets switched over to automation then you will see some real cheap goods. |
