NE CO
Price for proso millet is incredibly high this year, $40/cwt, but many years it is more like $4-6/cwt. High corn prices diverted a lot of acres the past few years and hardly any crop made it through the drought last year, so prices are very high now. If you grow proso, you should have storage so you can catch the high prices. It stores great, rarely any bugs or spoilage as long as it goes into the bin dry. Typically it is swathed and picked up out of the windrow. If you have wet falls, that can be a problem. It is ideally suited for our location with hot, dry summers and fall. It can get leaf diseases in a wet year here, but rarely a problem for us. As far as yield, it is similar to wheat and about 2/3 of corn. Here, wheat makes 35-40 bu/ac, corn 40-70 bu and proso 25-60 bu/ac.
